Physical Education

GYMNASTICS

We are proud that currently 2 gym clubs run at Blackgates using the skills of a professional coach. Children work for the BAGA awards.

CROSS COUNTRY

Mrs Cole takes children to Cross Country events throughout Leeds. One of our year 6 boys won the recent Morley Schools Cross Country Competition. We also participate in the annual Leeds Fun Run.

FOOTBALL

A professional football coach trains girls and boys in Football after school and we participate in local competitions.

We have promoted links with the Leeds Sports Development Unit. Children have received tuition in Rugby League by the Leeds Rhinos. The Rhinos enjoyed coaching our children, commenting that Blackgates pupils were responsive and excellently behaved. The Leeds Corinthians promoted Rugby Union working with a variety of age groups. Blackgates School teams represented us at a Rugby Union competition. Our children have also worked with Leeds United coaches.

The children have the opportunity to participate in the following team games in school: Kwik cricket, football, netball, rounders, athletics, cross-country and at the present time we are successfully represented in the Morley Schools League in football and netball and compete in friendly competitions for all other sports.

Children in Year 4 go swimming each week at Morley and receive expert tuition there. We have a very good reputation at Morley Leisure Centre and this year staff have commented that our children have made excellent progress – better than any other school in Morley!

Sport England Activemark Standard acknowledges good provision both within school time and after school. This award was received in July 2002.
